A man has received a prestigious prize for his DIY skills, it has emerged.
Carl Collins, a council house tenant in Southampton and chair of the Northam Tenants and Residents’ Association, has been named as Inspirational Tenant of the Year at the inaugural Housing Heroes Awards ceremony.
The Chartered Institute of Housing event, which took place in London, saw Mr Collins praised for the time he voluntarily spends organising events for the local community and supporting his neighbours, the Southern Daily Echo reports.
Among the work he does include doing DIY for residents and helping vulnerable tenants.
With the event organised by the Chartered Institute of Housing, Mr Collins was put forward for the award by housing officials in Southampton, with chief housing councillor Phil Williams claiming that he does “an incredible amount of work for the local community. It’s well deserved”.
But the Hampshire man is not alone when it comes to showing an adeptness for getting to grips with home improvements.
Speaking to the Islington Tribune earlier this month, former police officer Bob Carr revealed that upon retiring from the force, he went on a plumbing training course and has now set up his own business fitting solar-powered heating systems.
