Keen home improvers hoping to carry out a DIY project in the near future to make their properties more energy efficient have been given some advice by the Alliance to Save Energy (ASE).
The organisation firstly stated that it is important to install insulation in the loft, floors and basement walls.
In addition, homeowners need to plug air leaks in windows and doors by using caulking, while also sealing heating and cooling ducts in a forced air system.
Furthermore, people could consider upgrading their single-pane windows to more energy-efficient ones, as this could save up to 30 per cent on energy bills, the ASE stated.
Keeping furnace filters clean is also necessary as if they are dirty, air flow will be slowed – wasting energy.
The ASE was established in 1977 and works as a "non-profit coalition of business, government, environmental and consumer leaders".
It aims to promote energy efficiency around the world.
