A home design expert has claimed that DIY enthusiasts are seeking to "individualise" their cooking areas.
According to Robert Cassidy, brand manager at Britannia Living, DIY Britons are keen to create a unique feeling to kitchen by using more expressive colours.
Homeowners are moving away from the traditional stainless steel look for their cooker and "gloss blacks, cream, red, whites … are coming more into the kitchen", he said.
Mr Cassidy added: "People are getting colour-savvy about the way they want things to look, but also about the functionality behind it as well."
In addition, the design expert claimed that the economic downturn has made Britons more cautious in their DIY choices.
Homeowners are now more likely to conduct research before opting to buy a product, whereas previously "people made that decision a lot quicker", Mr Cassidy said.
Meanwhile, George Clarke, the presenter of Restoration Man, claimed recently that Britons can give their homes a fresh, new look by painting the walls white.
