An increasing amount of money is being spent on home improvements, it has been revealed.
In research recently released by Sainsbury’s Home Insurance a total of ยฃ1,162 is set to be splashed out on alterations and improvements over the course of this year.
Such a figure marks a rise of 2.97 per cent from the ยฃ1,128 that was spent in 2007.
Commenting on the figures, Joanne Mallon, Sainsbury’s Home Insurance manager, states: “We spend thousands of pounds each year running our homes and have often invested even more money on furnishings and decorating.”
However, those looking to do some DIY may want to invest money in improving a home’s energy efficiency as the total amount spent on gas and electricity has risen 26.68 per cent and 14.69 per cent respectively over the last two years.
Meanwhile, Jason Orme, editor of Homebuilding & Renovating magazine, recently claimed that Britons are increasingly looking to attempt home improvements themselves rather than hiring a professional to do such work for them.
